| The pictures depict my visit to the ruins of the first two Bulgarian capitals - Pliska and Preslav. Pliska is the first capital of Bulgaria founded some years after 681. At the end of 9th century, after christianity was proclaimed as the official religion the capital was moved to nearby Preslav, to cut all ties with the pagan past. In the centuries to come most of the buildings were demolished. Currently there are huge restoration works going on. There is also na excellent museum at the Preslav archaeological site that has on display the Preslav gold treasure comprising jewellery and a huge number of coins. |
