| Oaxaca - the name of the city comes from the word HUAXYACAC, which means "in the nose of the guajes", because of the abundance of guaje trees. It will grab you with its colourful colonial buldings and churches, lively zocalo and great zapotec and mixtec archaeological sites, interesting museums and memorable fiestas. We happened to visit the city during the Day of the Dead celebrations, an experience which cannot be forgotten. Altars with flowers and sweets were at every door, processions, fiestas, colorful decorations..all that and more. A place not to miss, if you are in Mexico. |
